You join ESN thinking it’s all about trips, parties, and helping exchange students.

Then one day, you realize you’ve actually been collecting real-world skills faster than last-minute group work piles up.

Here are the top 5 things you didn’t even know you were learning:

1. Crisis Management 101

From last-minute changes to “where is everyone?” moments, welcome to your unofficial MBA in problem-solving under pressure. By the end, you can handle anything life throws at you.

2. Cross-Cultural Communication

You learn to understand accents, habits, and humor from all over the world — and somehow make everyone feel at home. Whether it’s helping students with practical issues or guiding them through cultural differences, your communication skills grow every day.

3. Leadership

You end up running teams, motivating volunteers, and actually making things happen — all while trying not to miss your lectures.  Learning to guide teams and supporting newcomers gives you a real taste of leadership, without the boring suit and tie.

4. Networking Like a Pro

Through our buddy committee, you are paired with exchange students to help them adapt, building friendships and professional connections that can last a lifetime.

5. Event Planning

From trips and welcome parties to international dinners and cultural nights, you learn to organize, coordinate, and keep everyone happy. Being part of our event committee gives you hands-on experience, while the PR committee teaches you how to promote events, manage social media, and communicate effectively.
